Netflix is set to bring the chilling world of Alex North’s best-selling novel The Whisper Man to life with a star-studded cast led by the legendary Robert De Niro.
Scheduled for a global release on August 28, the crime thriller follows a widowed crime writer (Adam Scott) whose life is shattered when his eight-year-old son is abducted. Desperate for answers, he turns to his estranged father (Robert De Niro), a retired detective who once put away a notorious serial killer known as “The Whisper Man.”
As the investigation unfolds, they discover a terrifying connection between the current disappearance and the decades-old cold case, forcing the father-son duo to confront both a recurring nightmare and their own fractured relationship.
Directed by James Ashcroft and produced by the Russo brothers’ AGBO banner, marking their sixth collaboration with Netflix, The Whisper Man features a powerhouse ensemble including Michelle Monaghan, Hamish Linklater, and Owen Teague. The screenplay, penned by Ben Jacoby (The First Omen) and Chase Palmer (It), aims to balance the visceral tension of a manhunt with a poignant exploration of generational trauma.
At its heart, the film is described as a complex drama about the bonds between fathers and sons, set against the backdrop of a haunting playground rhyme that has suddenly become a reality.
