The BBC has released the first images from The Last Detectives, its new Welsh crime drama starring Steffan Rhodri and Mark Lewis Jones.
Set against the coastal backdrop of Tenby, the series blends murder investigations with a character-driven story about friendship, purpose and finding meaning later in life.
What is The Last Detectives about?
Previously developed as Old Town Murders, The Last Detectives follows a police team investigating a series of murder cases in the Welsh seaside town of Tenby.
At the centre of the series are DI Glyn Walsh (Mark Lewis Jones) and DS Sion Dearden (Steffan Rhodri). Their long-standing working relationship and instinctive understanding of one another become crucial as they navigate difficult cases, unexpected twists and secrets buried beneath the town’s picturesque surface.
They are joined by DC Remy Jones, DC Neil Miller and forensic biologist Pamela Thomas, forming the investigative team at the heart of the six-part drama.

How does The Last Detectives approach the police procedural?
While the series is built around a classic murder-of-the-week framework, its ambitions extend beyond the investigations themselves.
Creator and writer Matthew Barry has described the drama as a story about finding friendship and meaning later in life, viewed through the structure of a police procedural.
That character-focused approach gives The Last Detectives a slightly different angle within the crowded British crime drama space, pairing darker murder mysteries with the contrasting coastal landscape of Tenby.
Who stars in The Last Detectives?
Alongside Steffan Rhodri and Mark Lewis Jones, the cast includes Bethan-Mary James, Jordan Davies, Julie Graham and Catherine Ayers.
The newly released first-look images introduce the detectives at the centre of the story while also highlighting Tenby itself, which is set to play an important visual role throughout the series.

Who is behind the BBC crime drama?
The Last Detectives is produced by Nicola Shindler’s Quay Street Productions for the BBC.
Matthew Barry serves as writer and executive producer, with Davina Earl and Nicola Shindler executive producing for the ITV Studios-backed production company. Rebecca Ferguson executive produces for the BBC and co-commissioned the series alongside Nick Andrews for BBC Wales.
Andy Newbery directs episodes one to four and also serves as an executive producer, while Rhys Carter directs episodes five and six. Hannah Daniel writes episode four.
Where was The Last Detectives filmed?
Production took place across Tenby, Cardiff and the South Wales coastline, with support from the Welsh Government through Creative Wales.
ITV Studios is handling international sales, positioning The Last Detectives as another BBC crime drama with potential reach beyond the UK market.
