Amazon MGM Studios and Di Bonaventura Pictures are moving forward with the development of The Gatekeeper, a brand-new feature film adaptation based on the high-octane literary world of New York Times bestselling author James Byrne in Deadlock.
Acclaimed filmmaker Matthew Michael Carnahan, widely known for his directorial debut Mosul as well as for penning global box office hits like World War Z and the critically acclaimed Deepwater Horizon, is officially attached to direct the thriller.
Crafting the screenplay is Oscar-winning writer Brian Helgeland, whose stellar pedigree includes acclaimed scripts for L.A. Confidential, Mystic River, Man on Fire, and the recent Paramount+ feature Finestkind.
The movie follows the gripping exploits of Desmond “Dez” Aloysius Limerick, an unconventional and fiercely talented ex-operative. After a chance encounter where he saves the life of a reporter, Dez unexpectedly stumbles into the center of a vast, dangerous conspiracy, forcing him to unleash his deadly skillset to stop powerful forces desperate to keep their dark secrets buried.
Interestingly, while the protagonist was originally introduced in Byrne’s debut novel The Gatekeeper, this cinematic project is primarily adapting the narrative of the author’s second thriller installment, Deadlock. The Deadlock feature film is being produced under the banner of Di Bonaventura Pictures alongside producer Pouya Shahbazian.
