BBC has commissioned a factual drama centered on the murder of Sarah Everard.

The project will be produced by Etta Pictures, the company led by screenwriter Jeff Pope, who will also serve as writer and executive producer. Planned as a two-part mini-series (2×60 minutes), the drama is set to approach the story with sensitivity and respect, with the production team in contact with Everard’s family throughout the process.

The series will revisit the events of March 2021, when 33-year-old Sarah Everard was abducted while walking home in South London by serving police officer Wayne Couzens, who later took her to Kent and murdered her. The case sparked nationwide outrage in the UK, becoming a defining moment in public discussions around women’s safety.

Beyond recounting the crime, the drama will examine how Couzens was able to join and remain within the police force, shedding light on institutional failings and deep-rooted issues of misogyny. By focusing on both the personal tragedy and the systemic breakdowns behind it, the series aims to highlight the broader societal impact of the case and keep the conversation around accountability and reform in the public consciousness.
