Babylon Berlin is set to conclude with an eight-episode final season that places its crime narrative against one of the darkest turning points in modern history.
Rather than focusing solely on the political upheaval of 1933, the series continues to follow detective Gereon Rath and Charlotte Ritter as they navigate murder investigations and criminal conspiracies while Germany descends into Nazi rule.
Beginning in February 1933, shortly after Adolf Hitler’s appointment as Chancellor, the final chapter explores how law enforcement, justice, and organized crime become increasingly entangled with a rapidly changing political landscape. Volker Bruch and Liv Lisa Fries reprise their acclaimed roles for one last investigation under the guidance of returning showrunners Henk Handloegten, Achim von Borries, and Tom Tykwer.
The concluding season will debut on September 10 on ARD’s streaming platform before its television rollout later in the month. Beyond the series itself, the Babylon Berlin universe is expanding with a companion video game, a behind-the-scenes documentary, and an original audio drama. Produced by X Filme Creative Pool alongside German public broadcasters, the series is distributed internationally by Beta Film, which continues to bring the acclaimed crime drama to audiences worldwide.
