Director Lilly Wachowski is setting the stage for an unconventional, public live reading of her upcoming dystopian political thriller The Hunted, which she co-wrote with Mickey R. Mahoney.
Scheduled for August 7–8, 2026, at Dynasty Typewriter, this unique table read event marks a bold departure from traditional Hollywood practices. Channeling the spirit of V for Vendetta, the film is set in a dystopian America where transgender people face systemic brutality and erasure.
The Hunted‘s story unfolds after a heinous crime triggers mutual care and resistance within the trans community, leading two trans women on a search for the perpetrator that reaches the highest echelons of government.
The project features a stellar producing lineup, developed by Wachowski’s Anarchists United alongside Ariadne Collective, the newly formed indie studio by acclaimed actress Natasha Lyonne, Sean Lennon, and Evan Ross. By bypassing conventional, closed-door industry development processes and sharing the script directly through a public reading, the creators are taking a vital step celebrated as an act of artistic transparency and confidence.
“Queer people have a necessary desire to be in community and for trans people, at this time, this need is particularly urgent. Our lives literally depend on it,” said Wachowski. “The hope is that a table read of The Hunted, will result in the same joy and catharsis that Mickey and I experienced while writing it.”
