A modern reinvention of the crime procedural, the upcoming drama series titled Moriarty explores the double life of Professor James Moriarty, who secretly serves as a criminal mastermind while teaching at Durham University.
The plot follows the iconic Sherlock Holmes antagonist as he is forced to partner with Yorkshire detective Imogen Burrows to take down a mysterious criminal faction. Written by Strike Back‘s Chris Cornwell and Flack‘s Oliver Lansley, the project is currently being co-developed and co-produced by Fremantle and the UK indie Archery Pictures.
Although the casting and commissioning platform have yet to be announced, Fremantle is already handling the global distribution for what is being envisioned as a highly commercial, returning franchise.
Fremantle and Archery founder Kris Thykier said: “We are thrilled to be working with Fremantle to bring to life the original and character driven spin off from the Sherlock Holmes universe that Chris Cornwell has created. Moriarty will show audiences what it takes to be a criminal genius, combining genre thrills with a playful, dark, and thrilling dive into the psychology of villainy.”
