In 2022, 17-year-old Mackenzie Shirilla deliberately crashed her car into a brick wall in Ohio, killing her boyfriend and his friend.

Mackenzie Shirilla was found guilty of the murders of Dominic Russo and Davion Flanagan, convicted on 12 felony charges, and sentenced to life in prison, with the judge describing her as “hell on wheels.” This case is now the subject of Netflix’s upcoming true-crime documentary The Crash, set to premiere on May 15.

The documentary is produced by Raw, an All3Media-owned production company that has previously worked with Netflix on projects such as Don’t F**k With Cats and the Trainwreck franchise. Mackenzie Shirilla had been driving the pair home from a party in Strongsville, Ohio, and what initially appeared to be a tragic accident was later revealed to be a calculated crime. The Crash delves deeply into the shifting narratives and volatile relationships of that fateful night, exploring, as Netflix describes, “where a fatal mistake ends and cold-blooded murder begins.”

The film is directed by Gareth Johnson, with producers Angharad Scott, Rebecca North, and Jonny Taylor overseeing the project. Shirilla’s case has previously been featured in documentaries including A&E and Channel 4’s Killer Cases as well as Investigation Discovery’s Mean Girl Murders.
