A two-part true crime documentary called Surviving Fred and Rose West: Inside Cromwell Street is coming to UKTV.
One of the last surviving victims of abuse inside 25 Cromwell Street, Kathleen Richards, will share her story of when she moved into the Gloucester home of Fred and Rose West. She was 17 years old when she was seeking a home with her sister. However, what she thought would be a home to her became a place of manipulation and grooming, with six bodies already buried there. The documentary explores her time living in the Gloucester home, how she barely escaped becoming their next victim and her experiences’ long-term effects throughout her life.
Kathleen’s testimony sheds light on her friendship with her fellow tenant Shirley Robinson, who was carrying Fred West’s child before she disappeared and her understanding that she was also being groomed by Fred and Rose West. In the documentary, Kathleen reunites with her childhood friend and fellow witness Karen Hamilton as they discuss their experiences and return to Cromwell Street for the first time in almost 50 years.
The series includes personal archives, photographs, family testimony, police material and news footage. It also features journalists and police officers connected to the case, expert analysis from psychologist Dr. Elly Hanson, and insight from Fred West’s biographer Geoffrey Wansell.
Red Sauce is producing the U&Original series for the free streaming service U and U&W. Helen Nightingale (UKTV), Tom Edwards (Red Sauce) and Chelsea Randall (Series Director) are executive producing the show. Virgin Media Television has pre-bought the series for broadcast in Ireland. BossaNova is handling the international distribution.

The series’ production has started and will be released on U&W this Autumn.
