The story behind one of Killing Eve’s most intriguing characters is set to take a new turn with Honey, which will make its world premiere at MIPCOM Cannes.
Ann Skelly stars as Martha, an MI6 agent operating undercover in East Berlin during the Cold War. The series explores the dangerous world surrounding her assignment while putting an unexpected romance at the heart of the story.
How Is Honey Connected to Killing Eve?
While the BBC and ZDF have not officially confirmed the connection, Honey has previously been reported as an origin story centred on Carolyn Martens, the intelligence chief portrayed by Fiona Shaw in Killing Eve.
The new series goes back to the early stages of Carolyn’s world, shifting the focus to a younger generation of espionage and the personal relationships that develop within it.
Martha finds herself caught between duty and desire as her work in East Berlin draws her into a complicated three-way relationship.
Who Stars in Honey?
Alongside Ann Skelly, the cast includes Nate Mann, known for Masters of the Air and Licorice Pizza, Jannis Niewöhner and Rory Kinnear, who has appeared in The Diplomat and The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power.
Emma Moran created and co-wrote the series with Emme Hoy. Toby MacDonald and Michelle Savill direct, with Christopher Hall producing.
The BBC-ZDF production will be presented to the international TV industry at MIPCOM Cannes, where Fifth Season will showcase the series as part of its global sales slate.
