A dark murder mystery lies at the heart of HBO’s upcoming DC series Lanterns, which brings the Green Lantern universe down to Earth with a gritty investigation set in small-town America.
The first trailer for Lanterns has been released, with the series set to premiere on HBO this August. The show centers on a murder investigation led by Hal Jordan and John Stewart. In the story, veteran Green Lantern Hal Jordan and rookie recruit John Stewart find themselves at odds while investigating a mysterious murder in Nebraska, in the American heartland.
The trailer highlights the tense relationship between the two characters, leaning into a classic mentor-rookie dynamic.
The series stars Kyle Chandler as Hal Jordan and Aaron Pierre as John Stewart. The cast also includes Kelly Macdonald, Garret Dillahunt, Poorna Jagannathan, Ulrich Thomsen and Nathan Fillion.
The series was created by Chris Mundy, Damon Lindelof and Tom King, with Mundy also serving as showrunner. The production is a collaboration between DC Studios and Warner Bros. Television.
