Benedict Cumberbatch will star in Cary Fukunaga’s crime thriller Blood on Snow.
According to an exclusive report by The Hollywood Reporter, Cumberbatch has joined the cast to replace Tom Hardy, who left the project due to scheduling conflicts.
Following the premiere of The Thing With Feathers at Sundance, Cumberbatch is joining the cast of Blood on Snow, starring Aaron Taylor-Johnson. Blood on Snow, based on Jo Nesbo’s crime thriller of the same name, also stars Eva Green, Emma Laird, and Ben Mendelsohn.
Filming is expected to begin in Latvia at the end of the month. Taylor-Johnson plays Olav, a hitman and mediator hired by a mafia boss to kill his wife. However, when Olav convinces himself that he is in love with the woman and gives up on killing her, the consequences set off a tragic turn of events that could lead to a bloody mafia war.
Though character details have not been shared, Cumberbatch is expected to play the role of “The Fisherman,” a rival mafia boss.
Written by Jo Nesbo and Ben Powers, the film is being produced by Mike Larocca, Michael Schaefer, Fukunaga, Nesbo, Tracey Seaward, Niclas Salomonsson, and Dean Baker.
