Steve Callaghan’s Trivia Night Mysteries is becoming a full-fledged cozy crime franchise, with two new movies now completed and more instalments already in development. Produced by Nicely Entertainment, Fit for a Murder and A Fatal Lesson will once again pair amateur detective Sara Keane with lawyer Reid Taggart, played by Morgan Bradley and Alex Trumble.

The first movie in the franchise, Trivia Night Mysteries: A Question of Murder, is set to premiere on television and streaming in 2027. Meanwhile, the newly completed second and third instalments are expected to arrive later that year.

What Is Trivia Night Mysteries About?

The franchise follows Sara Keane, a freelance fact-checker and competitive trivia player whose impressive knowledge and sharp instincts unexpectedly turn her into an amateur sleuth. She joins forces with Reid Taggart, a charming lawyer who has recently moved to town, as the pair become increasingly involved in local murder investigations.

The stories combine traditional whodunit mysteries with small-town settings, lighthearted humor and the developing relationship between Sara and Reid.

In Fit for a Murder, Sara takes on a fact-checking assignment for a national fitness magazine. The job takes a darker turn when she discovers that her editor has been murdered, forcing her to reconstruct the victim’s final days and identify the person responsible.

A Fatal Lesson moves the investigation to a school fundraiser attended by Sara, where the school superintendent is pushed to his death. Sara, Reid and their trivia teammates then begin digging into the administrator’s past in search of a motive.

Who Created Trivia Night Mysteries?

The franchise was created by Steve Callaghan, the Emmy-nominated writer and longtime Family Guy creative. Callaghan also wrote the new movies and serves as an executive producer and showrunner.

The idea originated from Callaghan’s own interest in whodunits and his experience hosting weekly trivia games for friends during the pandemic. What began as a personal hobby eventually became the foundation for a multi-film mystery franchise.

Vincenzo Conrorio directs the second and third movies, while Vanessa Shapiro and Scott Kirkpatrick serve as executive producers for Nicely Entertainment alongside Callaghan.

Will There Be More Trivia Night Mysteries Movies?

The franchise is already looking beyond its first three films. With Fit for a Murder and A Fatal Lesson completed, pre-production on additional instalments is underway.

Nicely Entertainment is positioning the series as an internationally accessible cozy crime property, combining standalone murder mysteries with recurring characters and an ongoing romantic storyline. The company is also expected to present the franchise to international buyers ahead of MIPCOM in Cannes.

When Will Trivia Night Mysteries Premiere?

Trivia Night Mysteries: A Question of Murder is scheduled to make its TV and streaming debut in 2027. The second and third films, Fit for a Murder and A Fatal Lesson, are expected to follow later in the same year.
