A new drama series about Christian Rørmose Madsen, a Danish criminal who became a U.S. war hero and frontier legend, is in development.
Titled Gunsmoke & Mirrors, the series is being developed by Denmark’s Lunderskov Magic and the UK’s CMG Productions, alongside producers Nicole Finnan and Allan Sperling. Set in the late 19th-century American West, the drama will explore Madsen’s transformation from criminal and immigrant to lawman and frontier hero.
Gunsmoke & Mirrors Explores Chris Madsen’s Reinvention
Created by Michael Lunderskov, Gunsmoke & Mirrors is based on Madsen’s autobiography, contemporary accounts and Frans Ørsted Andersen’s biography Et Liv På Kanten (A Life on the Edge).
Rather than a traditional Western, the series is described as a character-driven story about identity, power and reinvention, viewed through European eyes.
Alongside the scripted series, the team is developing Danish- and English-language podcasts and a documentary drawing on newly uncovered information about Madsen and his impact on the United States.
The project marks CMG Productions’ first drama series and expands its slate beyond factual and documentary productions.
