Paramount+ has given a series order to Ascent, a new thriller starring Viola Davis and created by John Logan, as the streaming platform continues to expand its original scripted slate.
Produced by Paramount Television Studios, the series is scheduled to begin production in Los Angeles in 2027 and will launch globally on Paramount+.
Ascent centers on Catriona Vail, an elite corporate fixer whose expertise has made her indispensable to some of the world’s most powerful companies. When her estranged daughter is put in danger, Catriona is forced to turn the skills she has spent years using to solve billion-dollar corporate crises toward protecting her own family.
John Logan, whose credits include Skyfall, Gladiator and Penny Dreadful, will serve as showrunner and executive producer. He will be joined by Michael Aguilar, while Davis and Julius Tennon will executive produce through their JuVee Productions banner.
The order comes shortly after JuVee Productions signed a first-look deal with Universal Global Television, further expanding the company’s television ambitions.
Ascent joins an increasingly busy scripted lineup at Paramount+, which has recently ordered a number of high-profile projects. The streamer’s upcoming slate includes a Clueless sequel event series starring Alicia Silverstone, Laird with Kenneth Branagh, 9/12 led by Jeremy Strong, Fear Not starring Anne Hathaway and Discretion, featuring Nicole Kidman and Elle Fanning.
Paramount+ has also renewed Dutton Ranch and The Madison, adding to its growing roster of original scripted productions.
