In a major strategic expansion, Beta Film has finalized several high-profile distribution deals bringing top-tier British crime dramas to the French market, including Bookish.
Bookish is created by and stars the multi-talented Mark Gatiss (Sherlock). Set in the evocative atmosphere of post-war London, this stylish procedural has been acquired by CANAL+ for its dedicated crime channel, POLAR+. Bookish arrives in France following a record-breaking debut in the UK, where it captivated 1.5 million viewers, marking one of the highest-performing premieres in the territory’s recent history.
Joining the French lineup is the sophisticated and smart crime drama Professor T, starring Ben Miller as the brilliant yet eccentric Cambridge criminologist, Jasper Tempest. The series, which has already been sold in nearly 120 territories worldwide, will now find a home on the NBCUniversal-backed pay channel 13ème Rue.
As it enters its fifth season, the show continues to blend academic brilliance with complex criminal investigations, maintaining its status as a global “must-see” according to international critics.
These acquisitions by French broadcasting giants highlight the enduring appeal of “British-born” mysteries that combine period authenticity with modern narrative pacing. Alongside these UK hits, Beta Film also confirmed the French premiere of the record-breaking German crime cycle Death in Denmark on POLAR+.
