The timeless espionage world of legendary author John le Carré is making a grand return to television with Legacy of Spies, a high-profile collaboration between the BBC and MGM+.

Starring Matthew Macfadyen as the iconic spymaster George Smiley, the eight-part series offers a hybrid narrative that serves as both a prequel and a sequel to cult masterpieces such as The Spy Who Came in from the Cold and Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy.

The ensemble cast is a true gathering of talent, with Dan Stevens taking on the role of the enigmatic Bill Haydon, previously portrayed by Colin Firth, alongside All Quiet on the Western Front star Felix Kammerer, Agnes O’Casey, Charlie Hunnam, Daniel Brühl, and Devrim Lingnau.

Spearheaded by The Ink Factory, the production house behind the global hit The Night Manager, this ambitious project unites British and German talent to reflect the chilling atmosphere of the Cold War in its most profound depth. With cameras already rolling, Legacy of Spies is set to premiere on BBC One and BBC iPlayer in the UK, and on MGM+ in the United States.
