DR Sales Expands Crime IP Strategy with PS Formats

As Nordic crime continues to travel across borders, DR Sales has launched PS Formats to capitalise on its strong IP catalogue, turning acclaimed titles into globally adaptable formats and reinforcing its position in the competitive crime drama market.

Since then, the format business has expanded rapidly, evolving from a small initiative into a core commercial focus. The launch reflects both this growth and the shift to IP and format monetisation.

“Formats started almost as a side focus alongside my work with finished content, but it quickly became clear that this was where the market was moving,” said Camilla Maria Saabye Bjerregaard, Lead Format Sales Executive at DR Sales.

“As demand accelerated, we saw the need to bring the expertise in-house, build a clear pipeline and take a more focused and strategic approach. PS Formats is the result of that journey – and why I’ve fully transitioned into leading the format business, stepping away from post-sales after more than 13 years to focus on scaling our IP globally.”

The new label also reflects increasing complexity in the market, where buyers of finished content and format rights often operate across different ecosystems and require different materials.

By creating a dedicated label, DR Sales provides a clearer entry point for partners while separating format activity from its finished tape business.

The strategy builds on DR’s strengths in public service storytelling and Nordic IP, positioning PS Formats as a selective, quality-driven player in an increasingly consolidated global market.

Key titles include The Killing, adapted into multiple international versions, and Cry Wolf, which is set to receive a US adaptation later this year. DR Sales is also seeing traction with Prisoner and Piggy optioned in English-speaking markets, alongside growing interest in adapting documentary IP into scripted and theatrical formats.

On the unscripted side, PS Formats is building momentum with multiple option agreements across titles including Closet Detox, My Last Gift and Shaped by History, while The Story of… continues to expand with a second season in France.

Andrea Oslev, Format Sales Executive, now oversees the unscripted slate globally. “I’ve worked closely with Camilla on formats over the past five years, shaping creative materials and aligning them with market demand. We’ve seen a clear increase in interest, particularly within unscripted,” said Oslev. “As my role has evolved, we’ve also strengthened our visual identity with Catalina Rybel Eiberg Dreisig joining the team, helping to build a clear and distinctive expression for PS Formats.”

For PS Formats, the US is the key market for scripted adaptations, while Germany and the Netherlands are driving demand on the unscripted side.

With PS Formats – where PS stands for Public Service – DR Sales brings together a curated slate of Nordic storytelling rooted in strong values, authenticity and trust, extending beyond DR’s own catalogue to selected Nordic IP.

With PS Formats, DR Sales is not just responding to market demand, but actively shaping how public service IP can travel, adapt and succeed on a global scale.
