During the last Spanish TV forum, Conecta Fiction, Banijay Entertainment’s DLO Producciones announced La Caza. Irati, the fourth season of one of Spain’s biggest crime dramas. The series is based on Agustín Martínez’s bestseller book Monteperdido, and with its first three seasons (Monteperdido, Tramontana, and Guadiana), the franchise has drawn an average of 1.89 million viewers per episode on RTVE.

In La Caza. Irati, now working as a psychologist in the Civil Guard task force, Sara Campos (Megan Montaner) reunites with Lieutenant Ernesto Selva (Félix Gómez) when the corpse of a woman is found hanging upside down near a secluded village. As more murders are discovered, the locals of the village start whispering about “The Creature,” a shadowy figure tied to forest myths and ancient rune stones. Meanwhile, Selva clashes with a new boss (Silvia Alonso), and a group of teenagers wandering the forest adds to the tension.

Created by acclaimed novelist-screenwriter Agustín Martínez and produced by José Manuel Lorenzo for Banijay’s DLO Producciones, the series’ each season followed Sara, a Civil Guard sergeant battling her own mental illness as she investigates disappearances in remote Spanish landscapes: the Pyrenees, Mallorca’s mountains, and Andalusia’s Guadiana River border town.

Set to premiere on Movistar Plus+ in 2025 with a bigger budget, Irati continues the franchise’s winning blend of missing-person mysteries, rich character work, and even deeper themes, this time exploring how fiction can shape reality. The new season unfolds in the haunting forests of Navarre, Northern Spain.

The first season, La Caza. Monteperdido had significantly outperformed RTVE’s prime-time average when it first aired, closing its debut season with a 15% audience share, well above the network’s 9% average in 2019. Across its next two seasons (Tramontana, 2021, and Guadiana, 2023), the franchise maintained strong viewership numbers, averaging an 11.6% audience share and around 1.89 million viewers per episode, including catch-up viewing.

La Caza. Irati promises to deepen the franchise’s dark, atmospheric storytelling while exploring the power and danger of the stories we tell to each other.
